Biostime® Nutrition remains committed to leading the future of Infant and childhood nutrition, through nature and science with an uncompromising commitment to quality and safety.
Biostime® Nutrition remains committed to leading the future of infant nutrition, through nature and science with an uncompromising commitment to quality and safety.
Biostime® Nutrition has been a pioneer of research into HMOs, and by leveraging the knowledge gained, Biostime is elevating next-generation nutrition with innovations such as HMObiotics, a combination of HMOs, probiotics, prebiotics and resulting postbiotics.
Using fermentation, omics and human cell culture models, H&H research characterized how different HMOs structures interact with predominant microbes in the infant gut, like Bifidobacterium longum subsp infantis, Bifidobacterium bifidum and Bifidum breve.
HMObiotic is the result of H&H research. It is the combination of a selection of HMOs and probiotic strains that interact directly and/or indirectly to enhance health benefits on infants and children.
Our Biostime® Nutrition Range has been specially formulated based on a synbiotic principle, to include both prebiotics & probiotics:
Prebiotics are a substrate that are selectively utilized by host microorganisms conferring a health benefit on the host. FOS (fructooligosaccharides) and GOS (galactooligosaccharides) currently dominate the prebiotic category as evidenced by numerous studies on their prebiotic effect.
Structurally identical HMOs to those found in breastmilk have been added to infant formulas and supplements as research has shown that HMOs act as prebiotics. HMOs have also been shown to deliver functional benefits such as supporting gut maturation, stimulating the gut intestinal barrier and developing immunity.
2'-fucosyllactose (2'FL) is the most abundant HMOs in the human milk, accounting for more than 30% of total HMOs. Growing evidence from mother-infant cohort studies and clinical trials shows the role of 2'FL in supporting development of infant's healthy gut, reduction of infection and in decreasing intestinal pathogen load in infants.
Probiotics are live microorganisms that confer a health benefit on the host when administered in adequate amounts. Most probiotic-containing infant formula and supplement comprise Bifidobacterium spp and / or lactic acid bacteria such as Lactobacillus spp.
Both probiotics and prebiotics are added to Biostime supplements. Recently, 2'FL has been added together with probiotics in synbiotic supplement and as combination with Vitamin D in children HMOs supplement. Biostime supplement with lactoferrin also available in some markets.
